    Default Philadelphia Fallen Heroes Memorial

Did a search on this site and nothing came up. Liberty Place mall in their rotunda had (have?) several architectural plans on poster boards from various planning and architecture firms as part of the DesignPhilly celebration. And one of them was a design that claimed to have come in second place. I found it to be very neat in its use of light and etched glass-- something high tech and yet also very moving. The design that won out seems pretty good too but much more mainstream...

If you heard more about this, do share...

Here's a video of the winning entry by someone called Moto Design Shop, from about 5 months ago:

Situated in Franklin Square Park, the site is configured to create a processional sequence towards a fixed white marble cube. The ground surface contains perpendicular stones in various tones and finishes, each engraved with texts, quotes and memories of those fallen. The cube is wrapped in a black stone band, emulating the band or veil placed over a badge in respect to a fallen hero. The surrounding landscape, retained by a corten steel wall, slopes up towards the monument and encompasses the visitor creating an intimate moment of reflection. Evergreens stand at attention around the memorials edge, reminiscent of an honor guard.
