I had to do a double take to be sure that the splotchy limestone wasn't actually shadows being cast by adjacent trees.
It's an odd choice. I don't really like it.

I noticed the scheme yesterday, I had to do a double take as well. I don't know yet, It's going to depend alot on what the rest looks like. It's an interesting idea, but not sure if it comes off well.
I immediately thought of the Nuclear Reactor Cooling towers in Japan. Almost the same idea, but I thought theirs was cool, Barnes, not so much. Yet.
SooooooooooooooooPER ........................ SL O WD O WN
I thought it was unfinished? That's the finished look?

I think you are talking about the paint job on the Fukushima Daiichi reactor containment buildings [or, what's left of them]. The Fukushima plant doesn't have giant cooling towers because they used a multiple closed loop cooling system, so no need for those giant 3 Mile Island-esque concrete toruses.

I caught a bit of the evening sun lighting up the facade last night and it looked like the whole building glowed gold.
it was only for a second but I thought if the whole building is designed to do that it will really be spectacular.
i think overall it seems like a nice choice to blend with the other tan limestoney buildings on the parkway (Rodin, Franklin Institute, Library)while still looking more modern....but will have to see the end result.
I think it will look good - the stone is kind of interesting to me.
Also, let's not forget that this is replacing what once was a jail on the parkway (that looked like a jail). Not that it should lower our standards, but man... I'm happy to see just about *anything* else there besides the old building.
(BTW, the carpenter's union was picketing the site today. I hope they all caught pneumonia.)

I'm not seeing all these supposed bikes in all these million dollar bike lanes.
To each his own. I like it.
There's enough parking on the parkway meet the needs of the cultural institutions there. There's even room to add more parking by removing travel lanes; there is no way that all of those travel lanes make sense, whereas adding more parking on the perimeter of Center City would probably be a good thing.
Perhaps. TWBT's idea is to recreate as much of the experience of the original building as possible, without moving the a$$hole neighbors to the Parkway.

Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine.
It's the ghost of Barnes already haunting the place.
OK WTF What's With This...
