My #1 for August 30th is
A Tie between
Tug McGraw (Would have been 65) 1944
& Ted Williams (II) (Would have been 91) 1918
-
Tug McGraw (Would have been 65) 1944 – Died age 59
Born 30 August 1944 - Martinez, California, USA
Date of death 5 January 2004 - PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA. (brain cancer)
Birth name: Frank Edwin McGraw Jr. / Height: 6' (1.83 m)
Spouses: Phyllis Kline (? - 1988) (divorced) 2 children
Diane (? - ?) (divorced) 1 child
Children: Matthew by ex-wife Diane; Mark and Cari Lynn by ex-wife Phyllis.
McGraw was married to Phyllis when he met Elizabeth d'Agostino;
their son, Tim, was 11 when he learned of his paternity.
McGraw knew of Tim at the time, but refused to acknowledge the boy
and wasn't interested
in being a part of his life. The two eventually became close, and
Tim took the surname McGraw.
Coined the phrase 'You Gotta Believe' while with the Mets in 1973.
The Mets, who had been in last place much of the season, ended up
going to the World Series.
Joined the Phillies for the 1975 season and became one of the
city's most beloved
sports figures in his ten seasons there.
Struck out Willie Wilson to end the 1980 World Series, the only one
ever won by the Phillies.
Much of pitching success was due to throwing a screwball,
a wrong-way curveball that was effective against righthanded hitters.
Pitcher for the New York Mets (1965-67 and 1969-74) and
Philadelphia Phillies (1975-84).
Was a sports/special interest reporter for WPVI-TV in Philadelphia
from 1985 to 1993.
Rejoined the Philadelphia Phillies as a Spring Training pitching
instructor in 2002.
He got his nickname 'Tug' by his mother because of the particularly
aggressive way he breast-fed.
Baltimore Bob got to see his son Tim McGraw perform at the Verizon
Center in DC in July 2007
with his wife Faith Hill with tickets won by Baltimore Bob’s friend
Mark who also attended.
The last time Baltimore Bob saw Tug alive in person was at the
closing ceremonies at the VET
(Veteran’s Stadium) after the last game/loss to the Atlanta Braves
in September 2003.

Ted Williams (II) (Would have been 91) 1918 – Died age 83
Born 30 August 1918 - San Diego, California, USA
Date of death 5 July 2002 - Inverness, Florida, USA.
(congestive heart failure)
Birth name: Theodore Samuel Williams / Height: 6' 4" (1.93 m)
Nicknames: The Splendid Splinter, The Thumper, Teddy Ballgame and The Kid

Cameron Diaz - Age 37
Born: 30 August 1972, San Diego, California, USA.
Movie debut at age 22 in
'The Mask' (1994) as Tina Carlyle.

Standing Room ticket so I was behind home plate.
Phillies disappeared this series
and should be embarrassed except for LEE.
Phillies team batting average .227,
& Pitchers had a 5.37 ERA.
I'm now 2-4 in Phillies World Series games.
The PHILLIES are 2-5 in World Series(s).
Yankees are 27-13.
